MOON PROPERTY: MONTES TAURUSThe site of the last Apollo lunar landing, the Taurus Mountains ("Montes Taurus" in Latin) are widely regarded as one of the moon's most beautiful and dramatic features. The Taurus range is located in the northeastern quadrant of the moon, covering some 500 kilometers of territory north of Sinus Amoris ("Bay of Love" in English) and east of Mare Serenitatis ("Sea of Serenity"). Dotting the mountain range are numerous notable craters, including Römer (a prominent 40-kilometer wide bowl), and the prominent yet small Brewster and Franck. Just southwest of Brewster and Franck, in the region known as Taurus-Littrow (named for the Taurus Mountains and nearby Littrow Crater), is the landing site of Apollo 17, the last of the original U.S. manned missions to the moon. |
