GENERAL QUESTIONS
What is the Society for Lunar Exploration and Development?
The Society for Lunar Exploration and Development (SLED) is the world's leading citizen advocacy group whose primary concern is the future of the moon and privatized ownership and development of lunar real estate. The Society takes its mission seriously and is committed towards establishing a means of equitable, legal and affordable ownership of lunar property. A proud and distinguished member of the Lunar Hall of Fame, the Society for Lunar Exploration and Development believes that lunar property ownership should not be limited to large corporations, real-estate development enterprises and mining interests. While these (and all other businesses) certainly play a role in the future of the moon and privatized ownership and development of lunar real estate, they should not be the sole controllers of its fate.
What is Project SLED?
Project SLED is the Society for Lunar Exploration and Development's initiative to return humans to the moon so that anybody who wishes to own land on the moon can do so by purchasing an officially authorized lunar land claim from Lunar International.
Can I become a member of the Society for Lunar Exploration and Development?
Any individual who purchases a lunar land claim from Lunar International also receives a complimentary membership in the Society for Lunar Exploration and Development, allowing them to keep abreast of the Society's accomplishments and objectives. Society members also receive access to exclusive discounts.
When I purchase a lunar land claim, where does the money go?
A portion of the proceeds from all Lunar International sales is used create the investment capital required to occupy and develop the Moon and to create a true, legal basis for lunar property ownership. We believe this is the only way that real, hard-working humans can live the lunar dream.
Is my purchase of a lunar land claim legal?
Yes. Systems based on land claims, like the one developed by Lunar International in partnership with the Society for Lunar Exploration and Development, have been internationally recognized by space law experts as the best method for ensuring private property rights, creating a sustainable infrastructure and obtaining the capital required to take the next step towards successful lunar development.
Doesn't the United States own the moon because it was the first to land there?
While the United States did land the first human beings on the surface of the Moon, they did not and could not claim ownership of the moon under the provisions of the United Nations Moon Treaty.
I saw a man on television who says he owns the moon because he filed a claim with the United States, the Soviet Union and the United Nations. How can you sell the Moon if he already owns it?
No individual or company owns the moon. Since this individual's claims do not meet any recognized standard of international law, Lunar International believes that anyone doing business with this individual should proceed with extreme caution. Lunar International works with international organizations and space law experts to be sure that our customers will be entitled to legally possess their land should our efforts prove to be successful.
Under what laws does the United Nations enforce its lunar treaty?
Through its Moon Treaty of 1967, the United Nations established that its member states could not claim sovereignty on the Moon. The United Nations is not a government and cannot make laws — only treaties among its members. The UN is solely an organization of nations on Earth, and was created to maintain order among its member states. The UN has no authority to control or regulate activities beyond its own membership.
The International Astronomical Union (IAU) says that it does not endorse the sales of property on the Moon. How can you sell land on the Moon without their approval?
The IAU is well respected, and rightly so, for the role it plays in standardizing the catalogues of planetary nomenclature and star designations. However, the IAU is not a governmental agency and as such has no authority to govern, make laws or determine sovereignty on any planetary body, including the Moon.
I've already bought land on the Moon from another organization. Why are you selling the same land?
Lunar International only offers lunar land claims to select tracts of land on the Moon as catalogued in the International Lunar Lands Chronicle, and we are the exclusive authorized agent to do so. Nonetheless, we would never intentionally offer any property that another individual believes he or she owns. If you believe that your legal rights of ownership have been violated, please contact us for an immediate resolution.
How do I ensure that someone else won't claim my property?
Upon your purchase, your deed and title are immediately recorded in the International Lunar Lands Chronicle, establishing a formal record of your purchase. If at any time another entity attempts to claim your property, Lunar International will immediately file a dispute against that entity challenging their assertion. Conversely, if anyone who has purchased lunar land through another entity believes their property rights have been violated, they may contact us for immediate resolution of the conflict.
What happens to my lunar land claim if your organization successfully meets its goals of returning humans to the moon?
In order for our mission of exploring and developing settlements on the moon to be successful, our organization will need to enter into agreements with numerous technological and scientific partners. One condition of these partnerships is that our partner organizations must agree to our terms and conditions in order to receive funding from Lunar International. Should we prove to be successful in our endeavor, your lunar land claim will immediately be converted into a property deed, and you will own the property identified on your lunar land claim.
What if your organization doesn't meet its intended goals of returning humans to the moon?
It is our sincere goal to return humans to the moon, giving the people who purchased lunar land claims from us full and clear ownership of lunar property. Thanks to numerous technological and scientific developments over the past several years, we truly believe we will accomplish our goal. We plan to continue operating until we satisfy our declared mission of returning humans to the moon. However, should we determine at some point that our goal will be impossible to achieve, we will still do everything in our power to increase the probability of lunar exploration, development and settlement. We will continue to develop educational materials and will continue to offer scholarships to students interested in the lunar sciences. Each customer who purchased a lunar land claim from our organization will be recognized for their contribution to the advancement of lunar exploration and development.
